Common Ground: Oregon's Ocean to screen in Port Orford Feb 3 (free event)

What: Common Ground is a documentary that addresses the issue of marine reserves in Oregon's waters. The film features beautiful footage of the underwater world off Oregon's coast and presents perspectives from marine scientists as well as from fishermen and others who rely on the ocean for their livelihoods. The program provides new and essential information for the discussion about the future of Oregon's marine environment. The 30-minute film will be followed by a Q & A session with a panel of scientists, fishermen, conservationists, ocean resource managers and the audience.

When: Feb 3rd, 8:30pm at the Savoy Theater. The reception takes place at 5:30pm next door to the theater at the Wild Wind Cafe. - Q & A session to follow.
Where: Port Orford, OR, Savoy Theater
Why: This screening promises to be critical in the effort to establish protection for Oregon's marine resources. The Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC) is currently considering the issue of marine reserves. A strong showing from the conservation community at these films and OPAC meetings sends a message of local support for the protection of marine habitats and biodiversity off Oregon's coast.
