Where do you think renewable ocean energy development should be located along Oregon’s coast? On Thursday, February 2, the Territorial Sea Plan Working Group will hold a public workshop from 11am to 2:30 pm at Portland City Hall (1121 SW 4th Ave, 2nd floor) to gather input on that question. The workshop will include an overview of the Territorial Sea Plan process, as well as public comment opportunities. The workshop will also address spatial data being used to inform the planning process (e.g, ecological, fishing, non-consumptive recreation, etc.) To access the agenda and flyer, please click here. The Portland Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation is looking for a new Music Outreach Program Coordinator. The Music Outreach Program started in 2007 and works with touring and local musicians to bring the Surfrider message to fans and concertgoers. MOP has given our volunteers access to shows by Donavon Frankenreiter, Colbie Caillat, Brian Wilson, Brett Dennen, State Radio, and many more.
We need a new person to organize and attend these shows and events! The position involves not just running a table at shows, but also recruiting volunteers and training them. You’ll work independently, but under the advisement of MOP founder Nicole Parisi-Smith (currently based in Portland, Oregon).
It’s an excellent opportunity to get more involved with Surfrider, learn skills, make contacts, and, of course, get free concert tickets! (Like all chapter roles, this position is volunteer.)
Requirements:
• - Enjoy live music and already go to shows of your own accord, and follow tour schedules and artist nonprofit interests
• - Able to stay out late on weeknights
• - Comfortable directing volunteers and interacting with the public
• - Proactive, dependable, timely, and organized
• - Be a Surfrider Foundation member (previous volunteer experience strongly preferred)
Preferred candidates will also have regular access to a car, as some venues are not public transit-accessible.
Interested candidates should contact Nicole Parisi-Smith at nicole@SFsurfrider.org

Green-Go Solar Project to present at next PDX Meeting
Posted to Special Places on Dec-09-11. No CommentsThis coming Tuesday, December 13th, join us at the SE Lucky Lab at 7pm for the monthly Portland Chapter of Surfrider Foundation meeting. Social half-hour from 7-7:30 and meeting and presentation to follow. This month, Green-Go Solar Project is presenting on their work in Baja to help bring affordable and accessible energy to those in need. The mission of the Green-Go Solar Project is to promote the use of affordable and accessible solar energy in rural Baja, Mexico through education, hands-on participation, and service. If you’ve ever surfed or visited Baja, you’ve probably seen the strong separation between the tourist industry and the many impoverished natives to the area. The Green-Go Solar project aims to help close that gap and bring sustainable trainings to the local communities of Baja California Sur, Mexico.
