Territorial Sea Planning a Work in Progress

Oregon's Territorial Sea Planning process continues to move along with adoption of a comprehensive spatial plan for the siting of renewable energy development expected to happen sometime this fall. Surfrider has been an active participant in this process over the past 4 years with a seat on the TSP Advisory Committee representing ocean recreation, other stakeholders include commercial and recreational fishing, local government, wave energy industry, conservation, public at large and state agencies that have a role in the planning and regulatory process'. Following the recommendations from the Ocean Policy Advisory Council (OPAC) in April, the Advisory Committee has been meeting monthly to further refine the draft maps (see link below) as well as develop draft screening criteria that would be used to evaluate potential impacts from a proposed future development. Take a look at the draft map below and see how this might or might not affect some of your favorite places for ocean recreation, dark purple would be no-go areas, and the green areas potential development sites. Feel free to contact ocean recreation representative Gus Gates at ggates@surfrider.org with any questions.
