It’s very bittersweet, but I’ve accepted the Project Coordinator position with the West Coast Ocean Alliance. My last day with Surfrider will be February 16. If you know anyone who would be a good fit for the Oregon Regional Manager position, please share the position announcement with them.
As I reflect on my nearly 6 years as Oregon Field Manager, my mind is filled with so many wonderful memories – tough fights ending in victories, lots of laughter, fun and educational events, countless beach cleanups, and so much more. The common thread in all of those memories is the wonderful people who make Surfrider’s network.
It would be impossible to share everything here, so I’m offering some highlights.
Supporting four Otter Rock and Roll Youth Surf Competitions (mark your calendar for June 24, 2023 for the next event).
So many beach cleanups!
Helped pass several laws in Oregon that will reduce plastic pollution. One of the first victories was passing a plastic reduction policy in Portland.
Supported our seven water quality labs and opened a new lab in 2022. One of my favorite memories was the excitement of Congresswoman Bonamici visiting our lab at Seaside High School.
Partnered with communities and other organizations to finally put a stop to Jordan Cove LNG.
Worked with a lot of inspiring youth to protect the ocean. A very special memory is all of the brave fifth graders from the Sam Case Club who testified before City Council in support of the bag ban (which eventually passed!).
Pivoted from in-person to completely virtual activities during the pandemic, including co-developing an online interactive educational and art series about Oregon’s Marine Reserves.
I'll still be in Oregon and plan to stay connected with our network as a volunteer. Thank you to everyone I've worked with – especially our amazingly dedicated and passionate volunteers who give tirelessly to our mission.
