On June 20, Surfrider will celebrate the 10-year anniversary of International Surfing Day. This year we are hosting an Instagram contest titled, “My Special Place.” Surfrider invites people everywhere to take a photo of their special coastal place, whether that’s their local lake, river, ocean or other body of water or beach, and post it to their Instagram account for a chance to win.
How it will work: For 10 days leading up to ISD, Surfrider will be posting pictures on the official Surfrider Instagram of staff and Ambassador’s special coastal places as examples, in addition to highlighting some of the special places Surfrider has and continues to protect (i.e., Ma’alaea, Hawaii; Trestles, California; Salva Tres Palmas, Puerto Rico; Ruggles, Rhode Island; Redfish Rocks and Otter Rock, Oregon)
During this time, the public is encouraged to take pictures of their special coastal place(s) and enter the contest by posting their pictures to their Instagram profile Friday, June 20 through Sunday, June 22. To be considered, participants must tag @Surfrider and include the hashtags #ISD14 and #MySpecialPlace.
On Tuesday, June 24 three photos will be chosen and three winners will receive a prize pack that includes a Surfrider Foundation membership, Firewire surfboard, Billabong wetsuit, Spy sunglasses, Volkswagen and ZeeBerry.com gear, and more!
Three winners, from among the eligible entries, will be selected by a panel of Surfrider Foundation judges based on originality, creativity, and quality of the contestant's entry, and how well the images convey the theme of the contest.
