Hey Oregon Crew!

Gus here...I wanted to share some news with you: I was recently offered the position of Washington Policy Manager and I will be transitioning into that role starting August 1st. My current position of Oregon Policy Manager will be opening up soon and I encourage you help spread the word or apply if you're interested.

It's hard to believe that it's been nearly 6 years since being offered the position of Oregon Policy Coordinator, as the saying goes...time flies when you're having fun. Working with Surfrider Foundation has been the ultimate dream job, and I'm really excited to keep on livin' the dream and begin working with the great staff and chapters in the State of Washington.

As a born and raised Coastal Oregonian, I take great pride in the work that we have done together over the years to protect our special places and pass on a legacy of coastal stewardship to future Oregonians. With your hard work and support we've been able to do some great things...like creating a policy for how we engage on wave energy, protecting our Territorial Sea from oil and gas drilling, developing studies to better understand ocean recreation and it's economic contribution in Oregon, establishing a system of marine reserves and protected areas, better coordinating our response to tsunami debris and taking action in steps to reduce chronic sources of marine debris, and creating a plan for where renewable ocean energy can occur within our Territorial Sea while protecting important recreation areas and ecological hotspots. Along the way I've made some great friends and established some solid working relationships with all of you who I will miss seeing on a regular basis, the roots run deep....but it's also this body of work and the lessons learned that I'm excited to take with me and apply to Washington in efforts to protect special places and coastal ecosystems up there. I look forward to seeing all of you at future PNW Chapter conferences, the Clean Water Classic, or out in the water on a future visit back down to the Oregon Country.

Surfrider plans to open the Oregon Policy Manager position within the next week, you can find more information on that here. Please feel free to share with anyone who you think might be interested and encourage them to apply.

Cheers!

Gus
