Former Newport Chapter Chair Joe Haxel has been doing some pretty cool research since he passed the chapter baton a few years ago to focus on his Phd studies at Oregon State University. Joe is now a Senior Faculty Research Assistant at OSU and is collaborating with other scientists from NOAA and the federal Department of Energy on underwater acoustic studies off the coast of Newport. They are doing this work in attempts to have a better understanding of baseline conditions prior to installation of wave energy devices.
