In honor of the 50th Anniversary of the Wilderness Act, this year's keynote speaker will feature Jim Furnish, former Deputy Chief of the 192 million acre National Forest System. Prior to Deputy Chief, Jim served as Siuslaw National Forest Supervisor directing a total reformation from a timber-dominated mission to one of conservation biology under the Northwest Forest Plan with signifcant contributions to the Cape Perpetua area. Dramatic reductions in timber harvest and forest road networks were followed by a focus on young-stand management to enhance late-successional habitat for wildlife, fish, and other old-growth dependent species. Jim was generally regarded as one of the most pro-environment senior officials in the Forest Service. Check out the video trailer below, Seeing the Forest, for an awesome sneak peak of Jim's background and work.

Jim Furnish's keynote will be followed by short presentations from PISCO, ODFW and various research & monitoring projects within the Cape Perpetua nearshore, as well as a social mixer with light appetizers and beverages to identify topics of future interest and ways to collaborate with greater capacity.
