Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) recently released the Oregon Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor RecreationPlan (SCORP) for public review. This report is a wealth of information that provides an overview of the different roles of recreation providers and land managers in Oregon, results from their OR recreational survey, trends in recreation, a needs assessment, parkland classification of service standards and an effort to develop sustainable park systems in Oregon.
This report is used by the State to help prioritize funding for different parks services as well as informing future policy decisions. Why this is important to us is because we frequent these parks often, in fact every time we visit the coastline. The report could be used as a resource to help build the case for improved access points, water trail access, or efforts to create more drive in overnight camping areas on your section of coast.

From the report: "Oregon’s waterways (ocean, rivers, lakes, reservoirs and wetlands) are treasured resources and a preferred environment for outdoor recreation participation in the state. Public waterways are a setting for many top outdoor activities such as camping, beach activities, boating, relaxing, picnicking, trail activities, and bird / wildlife observation. Planners should note the public’s strong desire for more public access to Oregon’s waterways. This public support could enable public recreation providers to identify and acquire lands for public waterway access and appropriate development of recreational facilities to facilitate public participation in these top outdoor activities"

The Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) will take comments on the draft 2013-2017 Statewide Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan (SCORP) at a public meeting to be held Thursday, May 30 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Tryon Creek State Natural Area Visitor Center (located at 11321 SW Terwilliger Blvd. in Portland).
