Chip Terhune, Governor Ted Kulongoski's Chief of Staff, will be touring the Oregon Coast from Wednesday, January 16 to Friday, January 18. He has scheduled a series of public meetings in coastal communities to receive input on Oregons ongoing process to establish a network of marine reserves and marine protected areas (MPAs) in Oregons Territorial Sea. Meetings will be held in Astoria, Rockaway Beach, Pacific City, Lincoln City, Newport, Waldport, Florence, North Bend, Port Orford, and Gold Beach. A full schedule is attached to the link below. Please come out to speak in support of a network that will help protect Oregons nearshore marine ecosystem, while preserving access for recreational ocean users. Marine reserves are places in the ocean protected from human impacts, and science shows that reserves generally result in greater abundance, size, and diversity of marine organisms inside their boundaries.
