With the combination of big swells and recent king tides, the Oregon coast has been hammered lately with tons of marine debris. All of our Oregon Chapters have been doing an amazing job collaborating with Oregon Parks and Recreation Department (OPRD) and Oregon Marine Debris Team partners to rallying the troops and cleanup up our beaches.
Bastendorff Beach - New Years Day Cleanup - Coos Bay Chapter
In some of the more ecologically significant areas, chapters pulled together rapid response cleanups within a day or two to make sure they collected debris before the next big swell event pulled it all out back to sea. Since Christmas, Oregon Chapters organized 9 beach cleanups, rallied 186 volunteers and removed an estimated 10,000 lbs of debris! Check out some of the awesome haul shots. Amazing work Oregon Chapters, OPRD and everyone else who pitched in, you all should be proud! This great work funded in part by NOAA’s Marine Debris Program and the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation.
Falcon Cove - Day after Christmas - Portland Chapter
South Jetty Cleanup - Christmas Eve - Siuslaw Chapter
Taft Dock Cleanup - December 28th - Newport Chapter
