For many years, Surfrider’s annual chapter membership drive has been a year-end event, occurring in November and December. This year we are changing that up, moving the membership drive into the summer months, happening now until the end of August. Purchasing a Surfrider membership is one of the easiest ways to support your local chapter, and you can get one for as little as $5! To snag one, just visit your chapter’s website (find a list of the Oregon chapters here) and click “donate” in the top right corner. Your membership will be good for a year!
We are competing with all the other chapters in the nation, and the chapters that bring in the most members during the membership drive will win a cash prize! Last year, California and Washington chapters swept it- can you help Oregon take first place for the PNW?
Portland needs three more members to beat Cape Fear, Coos Bay needs four more members to beat Orlando and Northern Michigan, and Newport only needs ONE more member to beat the Suncoast, FL chapter!
Your membership donation will go directly to the chapter (plus a little bit to Surfrider HQ to support mine and Charlie’s staff positions) to help fund chapter programs and events. With your donation you can support water quality testing at your favorite surfing beach, the purchase of beach cleanup equipment, help us organize and build capacity around direct action campaigns, and grow our outreach so we can find even more friends of the ocean.
Becoming a Surfrider member won’t just help your chapter financially- the more members we have, the more powerful we are as a grassroots organization. We work on a local, statewide, and national level, so you can add your voice to the growing collective at City Council meetings, in Salem, or even to our reps in Washington DC! By becoming a member you will receive updates on our policy campaigns, and will have opportunities to give public comments, sign petitions, and make your voice heard on the issues you care about.
