The Joint Ways and Means Committee is expected to take action the week of April 30 on House Bill 2924 Territorial Sea Mapping. Please call your state representative and senator and ask them to support funding for this important effort. The Bill would provide funds for detailed seafloor mapping of geologic and habitat features in Oregon state waters (0-3 miles offshore). Such mapping would help inform planning for establishing a network of marine reserves and tsunami disaster preparedness. Presently, less than 5 percent of Oregon Territorial Sea has been mapped. In 2006, over twenty Oregon-based marine scientists signed a Scientific Consensus Statement for Mapping the Oregon Territorial Seafloor. Please let your state representatives know that you support HB 2924. For more information see http://dusk.geo.orst.edu/3mile/consensus_statement.pdf
