Volunteers gathered on October 5th for the Annual Fall Action Day at Oswald West State Park to show some love to this beloved area. Shorties is well known to surfers and beach goers love the sheltered cove on breezy days. If you don't want to get sandy, there are several miles of trails through beautiful forests with stellar ocean views. This area is also home to Cape Falcon Marine Reserve and two adjacent Marine Protected Areas (each with their own restrictions).
The Beach Trail Crew improved the main beach access path, allowing easier access for all.
The Beach Cleanup Crew removed approximately 100 lbs. of marine debris and trash from the beach.
The Trails Crew decommissioned 10 unofficial trails, protecting the environment from increased erosion and giving wildlife more safe corridors to use.
The Paver Crew leveled the pavers in front of the bathroom improving access and drainage by making the surface even (a project that has been on State Park's wishlist for years). These dedicated volunteers worked an additional 3.5 hours to complete this project.
