Oregon Beaches Forever Events

Surfrider's Oregon Beaches Forever Campaign strives to educate all Oregonians about the threats to our beaches, the science of coastal erosion and habitat loss, and beach ecology. Join an event with your local chapter, or attend a virtual webinar.

Webinar: Managing the Coastal Squeeze

Thursday, September 26th 6:00pm - 7:30 pm

This online event is free and open to all.

The webinar will explore how we currently manage our beaches, dunes, and adjacent shorelands in the era of the “coastal squeeze,” as sea level rise and increased storm surges come up against riprap and other infrastructure. Featuring Rhiannon Bezore, Coastal Shores Specialist with the Oregon Coastal Management Program, and Kevin Herkamp, Ocean Shore Program Coordinator with the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department.

Webinar: Coastal Erosion - A Worldwide Problem

Thursday, October 17th 6:00pm - 7:30 pm

This online event is free and open to all.

Join Surfrider, Oregon Shores, and the Oregon King Tides Project as they welcome Gary Griggs, Distinguished Professor of Earth & Planetary Science at UC Santa Cruz, to discuss the future of Oregon's coast.

The coastline has been eroding for thousands of years and this will continue into the future, driven by a gradually rising sea level coupled with extreme storm events. With sea level rising at an accelerating rate and waves getting larger, both public infrastructure and private property will be at risk. We need to look forward and make decisions now on how we will adapt to a different future.
