Oregon Beaches Forever Campaign

Protect public beaches and support climate-ready coasts

Surfrider Foundation and partner group Oregon Shores are launching a broad, multi-year campaign aimed to safeguard Oregon's public beaches for future generations and ensure the preservation of our coastlines and communities as we adapt to climate change.

In Oregon, the beaches belong to the people. Our entirely public shoreline is one of the state’s most treasured features, a vital legacy we can leave to future generations. Yet our public beaches are at risk, caught in the “coastal squeeze,” between rising sea levels and coastal development. Beach erosion and current management responses are shrinking beaches in Oregon, leading to the eventual loss of public access and recreation along the shore. Losing Oregon's wild and dynamic beaches puts more than recreation at risk as these vital habitats ecologically support a number of important and specially managed species while also providing climate and storm resilience benefits to coastal communities.

To preserve the long-term future of our public beaches we must engage coastal communities and all those who love the Oregon coast in developing a strategy for the preservation of our shore; and our Oregon Beaches Forever Campaign will be our roadmap!

The time is now. We must protect our public beaches before we lose them.
